Volunteering at HAGAM

Volunteers have been an integral part of HAGAM since 1985, and we greatly appreciate and value the contribution of our volunteers.

There is more to volunteering than that first meets the eye, as volunteering can provide a route to employment for many people, helping them gain the skills, experience and confidence they need to get back into work or change their career paths.

We accept that the pressure of the current financial downturn may require you to be more inclined to search for paid positions. However, you must not overlook the fact that, volunteering with HAGAM could significantly increase your employability in the tougher job market of today, by providing you with the opportunity to maintain or build your skills, develop necessary networks and shorten the period of time spent out of work. Volunteering can also help you demonstrate a genuine interest and passion in your chosen field, as well as expressing your social conscience and community values, all of which are highly desirable to employers.

We offer our volunteers;

  • A friendly and supportive environment
  • Platform to develop personal networks
  • Training
  • Supervision and support
  • Opportunities to contribute existing skills and qualities
  • Opportunity to develop skills and learn new skills
  • Opportunity to improve career prospects
  • Reimbursement of daily travel expenses
  • Opportunity to get involved in the local community
  • Chance to make a difference

Below is a list of the current volunteering opportunities within HAGAM;

TRUSTEES

HAGAM has an experienced trustee body, which forms its Board of Directors. The Board sets the overall direction of the organisation and ensures that it works in an ethical and financially sound manner to deliver its charitable aims. HAGAM is currently seeking to appoint a number of new Trustees in order to widen the Board’s skill base . We are looking for Trustees from a range of professional backgrounds.

Do you have experience in management, marketing, fundraising, private sector, local or national government, health or social care? Would you be interested in sharing your skills? Can you spare an hour every 6 to 8 weeks for Board meetings?If so, HAGAM would love to hear from you.

HAGAM Trustees do not have any client contact. However, all HAGAM Trustees are expected to have an interest, empathy and understanding for our client group.

Trustee positions are unpaid, but related expenses will be reimbursed.

By providing encouragement and leadership, you will help determine our strategic direction by advising us, when required constructively challenging, and recommending creative solutions to problems. Being a Trustee for HAGAM offers opportunities to;

  • be part of a professional, committed and caring management team
  • contribute your skills and experience for the benefit of our client group
  • make new contacts and improve your personal networks
  • develop new skills
  • improve career prospects
  • get involved in the local community
  • make a difference
  • have fun

The total time commitment required is approximately twenty hours per year. A small amount of time in which to contribute so much to such an invaluable cause!
