Harm Minimisation Support Group
This is an open group which strives for life without dependency.
This group provides therapeutic support to those clients who wish to gain control of their substance use with an ultimate aim to stop and maintain their abstinence from alcohol or drugs.
The safe sharing of ideas, insights and constructive feedback is an integral part of the group, as well as the focused topics, which will range from the effects of alcohol and drugs on the body and mind, to the client’s learned behaviours towards their friends and family an the processes of dependency and relapse.
The focus of the group is to reduce the harm caused by the use of drugs and alcohol and to promote safer practices. Based on the individual circumstances and the needs of the group members, there will be an opportunity for them to explore their goals, abilities, choices, and alternatives.
The Harm Minimisation Support Group runs on a weekly basis (Monday 6.30pm – 8pm).
Referrals for the group are accepted from the clients’ counsellor or key-worker, the clients’ GP or any other agencies involved in clients’ care.

Abstinence Support Group
The Abstinence Support Group is a facilitated peer support group providing on going therapeutic support to those clients who wish to maintain their abstinence from substances. The group is a place to develop skills, confidence, and self-awareness as well as providing an opportunity to benefit from the experience and support of other group members.
The aim of the Abstinence Support Group is to aspire for a life without alcohol or drugs while acknowledging their loss. The group explores goals, skills, choices, and alternatives. The role of alcohol, drugs, and relapses are discussed, attempting to understand its significance in participants’ lives.
This group runs on a weekly basis (Tuesday 6.30 - 8.00pm).
This is an open group with the aim of participants exiting after 1 year. During clients’ engagement with the group, the clients and facilitators will review his/her needs and circumstances on an ongoing basis in order to ensure that they receive best possible support.
Referrals for the group are accepted from the clients’ counsellor or key-worker, the clients’ GP or any other agencies involved in clients’ care.

Friends and Family Support Group
This facilitated peer support group provides individuals who are affected by someone else’s use of drugs or alcohol with an opportunity to receive support from specialist counsellors and individuals who have been in similar situations as themselves.
The group enables its members to share their experiences, gain relevant knowledge and learn new skills. The areas explored by the group include addiction and the impact of substance use on others, treatment options, the role of the carer, relationship issues, stress and crisis management and other forms of support available to friends and families of substance misusers.
The Group runs on Mondays 7pm - 8.30pm.
HAGAM encourages self-referrals. We also accept referrals from the clients’ counsellor or key-worker, the clients’ GP or any other agencies involved in clients’ care.
